Disney Credit Card: Worth It? Rewards & Costs from my Experience

Travel related credit cards can be a great way to discount your overall costs for any trip. We have used other credit cards in the past to steeply reduce our honeymoon and other trips. When we began planning our latest trip to Disney World we decided to explore the Disney Credit Card options as well.

Disney Credit Card Levels

  • Disney Premier Visa Card =
    • Credits: $300 credit after spending $1,000 in your first 3 months
    • Cost: $49 Annual Fee
    • Earn 5%: in Disney Rewards Dollars if you pay for Disney+, Hulu, or ESPN+ subscriptions
    • Earn 2%: in Disney Rewards Dollars from gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most U.S. Disney locations
    • Earn 1%: in Disney Rewards Dollars on all other purchases
  • Disney Visa Card =
    • Credits: $150 statement credit after spending $500 in your first 3 months
    • Cost: Free / No Annual Fee
    • Earn 1%: in Disney Rewards Dollars on all purchases

What are Rewards Dollars Good For?

You can redeem Rewards Dollars for Disney experiences like Disney Theme Park tickets, resort hotels, shopping, dining, and at the movies.

Other Disney Card Holder Perks:

10% off most merchandise purchases and 10% off select dining locations at both Disney World and Disneyland.

We used this benefit when we were at Disney World and that 10% saving on souvenirs and dining resulted in a substantial savings for us.

We also found promotions that change throughout the year on Disney resort hotels which can be further discounted for card holders.

Within the parks they offer some photo opportunity perks. For example, when we were there you could skip the line at Epcot to get your picture taken with characters. We personally did not use this feature on our latest trip but is something to consider utilizing if you already have the card.

Just for fun: If you do order a card you get to choose your favorite character to appear on the front of your physical card which can be a little bit of fun too!

We Decided on the Disney Premier Visa Card ahead of our last trip to Disney:

We were happy with our decision to go for this one even though it carries the $49 annual fee. We quickly reached the $1,000 in purchases on gas, groceries, etc. ahead of the trip which gave us back a $300 credit obviously offsetting the annual fee. Additionally at Disney World during our trip we benefited from the 10% discount on souvenirs for the kids and on dining. Plus we received a discounted room rate at the Pop Century Resort with this card.

Overall I would recommend this card, but if you want to avoid the annual fee you could even opt for the free Disney Visa Card and still receive many of the perks without worrying about spending $1,000 in your first 3 months. If you are going to Disney soon or if you frequent the parks I would definitely give this card a look!
