3 Travel Gear Must Haves for Traveling with Toddlers

My husband and I have always loved to travel together and we wanted to share those same adventures with our growing family. Now with 2 little boys under the age of 4, we have found a few ways to help keep our adventures rolling. Here are 3 things that have truly helped us travel farther and more comfortably with our littles:

  1. Deuter Kids Comfort Hiking Backpack: This is a hiking backpack that either parent can wear while the child rides in it on their back. It is comfortable for both the child and the parent and has allowed us to hike SO MUCH FURTHER than we ever could’ve with any other kind of carrier or trying to carry them ourselves. We have used this with both of our boys and they love it too! It also can come in handy for use in the airport on the way to your destination to carry them around the airport hands free and without a stroller. Linked here: Ride in Travel Backpack for Kids
  2. A Lightweight Travel Stroller: Let me start by saying we own multiple strollers, including a very nice UPPABaby one, which is great for certain situations (like city living or neighborhood strolls) but in my opinion that stroller is too bulky for flying. For flying trips I much prefer this Kolcraft Lightweight Stroller , it’s easily collapsible and we have been using it for YEARS. Bonus points because it includes a snack and drink tray for the kiddo and has cup holders for the adult too!
  3. Side by Side Double Stroller: If you have multiple little ones a double stroller might be just the thing. The one we own and love is a ‘City Mini by Baby Jogger.’ My husband raved about this thing on our recent trip to Disney and the kids would crawl out of beds in the morning and straight into the stroller they just loved it so much. What I loved about it: easy to steer, easy to fold and it folds up pretty slim, worked great at the airport and was able to gate check it, lots of storage below and has long sun shades which were great for stroller naps! So we got super lucky and found one being sold second hand and even though it is many years old (I think the couple that sold it to me said they had taken it to Disney 7 times!) but it still works great for us! If you can’t find one second hand, here is a newer version online: Double Stroller by Baby Jogger City Mini

Each of these items has helped us go farther and see more with our kiddos while they are still too little to cover much ground on their own. I suspect that someday I will look back on these strollers and carriers with a sentimental eye as I realize that my babies have grown big enough to walk their own paths, but the memories they’re helping us make along the way will be cherished forever.
